Zawmar is a story of learning to Praise. In 2011 our family went to North Dakota. We went to reset many things in our life, and with all the stress, we went to be alone with God awhile. Rob’s parent’s had both recently passed. Christine’s grandparents who raised her had also recently passed away. Our world as we knew it and the earthly supports were taking a new turn. Life surprised us in the High Plains because if possible, it was much harder than the stress we were trying to escape in Ohio. What was constant however, was God. He was closely watching us, we could feel Him. So, we reached up. We asked Him how we could get closer to Him, and He led us, through a sister’s testimony, to read the Bible in 90 days.
This is no small task! We ate, slept, worked, and went right to the Word. We were immersed, and really, it felt so nourishing. We sat with the Lord, and let Him teach us while the world swirled around us.
“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” – 1 John 2:27
Honestly, we learned more in that short time frame, sitting at Jesus’ feet, than we had in years. It was deeply renewing, uplifting and so real. But we want to tell you about the life changing lesson we learned about Praise. We asked God how we could love Him better, deeper. And He told us to Praise Him.
It seemed so simple, and hadn’t we already been doing that in church? He showed us Praise is deeper than the formal setting. It’s communion with God, a connection, as we sing the Word of God especially. Praise lifts us up above the circumstances of life, and joins us deeper to our Savior. Praise takes our eyes off us, and places them on Jesus, God Almighty, through the Holy Spirit. Praising God fills the heart, and there isn’t room for fear, worry or grief. And living in a mindset of Praise leads to Joy, and Peace that passes understanding.
He began to teach us to play instruments as well, and people can be observed praising God with their fingers in places like Psalm 150. Rob and Christine had some formal instruction as children, but we truly understand it was the Holy Spirit doing the teaching here. We came back to Ohio in 2013. Robert and Gideon started learning guitar. In this incredibly short amount of time Gideon was picking tunes, playing chords, understanding chords and key signature changes in a way many of us were struggling to keep up with! Then Robert started learning piano. We watched as God gave Robert this amazing understanding of music theory, he absorbed it like a sponge!
God asked Rob to pick up his percussion again, as well as learn guitar. God asked Christine to play her violin, for Him this time. Miraculously we watched as God formed an ensamble in front of our eyes! Christine had learned the flute as an adult, and Victoria and Mary felt the calling and learned as well. Rachel began viola with a real connection to it. Caleb was called to the guitar, then banjo with a ton of natural ability. Within a year we were all playing together, with just minimal instruction from teachers on youtube. The Lord took our deep desire to just play for His Glory, for Him, and magnified it into understanding. He still does miracles for His People, truly-we are living proof, and we praise Him. Within a year, we were playing as a group for other believers, and three years after that, we were recording music. Today, we have been playing for just 5 years, and it feels like we have always been making music. We feel like the Lord re-crafted us in the time we were in North Dakota. He shaped us to play, and we cannot wait to praise God with music in eternity.
We have a passion to encourage other believers to Praise God in a deeper way! Do you desire a deeper connection with God through praise? Contact us to be encouraged!
Circumstances may not change, but the soul, through Praise of God, is truly lifted above them. We feel it, live it, and express it. God wants all His little children to have the deep connection with Him that can be found in praising Him. Are you happy? Praise God! Are you Sad? Praise God-for who HE is! In all things, Praise God!
Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in His Sanctuary: Praise Him in the firmament of His power! Praise Him for His Mighty Acts! Praise Him according to His excellent Greatness! Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet, psaltery, harp, timbrel, dance: Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs! Praise Him upon loud cymbals, high sounding cymbals!
LET EVERYTHING THAT HATH BREATH PRAISE THE lord!
PRAISE YE THE LORD!
from Psalm 150
